Motivational Monday – What Will You Become?
In today’s society it’s hard not to focus on what we get when we achieve success…
A good salary…
A beautiful home …
A nice car….
The freedom to go on vacation where and when we want to….
The adulation of our peers….
Just getting in to the college of your choice is a monumental achievement and where you end up will have so much to do with your future.
Your senior year in high school was probably the most stressful year of all. You had to get the right grades, the right scores on your SAT’s and ACT. Distinguish yourself in sports, music, art or in some other extraordinary way. Because you had to get into the right college or university… Just figuring out what school was the right school was a task in and of itself.
And you succeeded! You made it to the school you always dreamed of and you are on track to pursue a brilliant career.
You have a lot to be proud of. You’ve already achieved a great deal.
And the pressure gets turned up a notch because at the end of your college career you will be tested once again, and you know that you must stand out if you want to get that dream job.
The one that keeps you up late at night bent over your text books.
The one with the nice pay check and great job security.
The one that will make all the hard work worth while and make your parents proud.
Yes the one that will allow you to get all the stuff that we associate with success.
But what about the real gain? The most important gain of them all?
Who we BECOME!
If you could look into the future, 10, 15 years from now, what would you want people to say about you?
Would you want them to introduce you by a specific title and define you by what you own?
Or would you rather hear them speak of your character? Your work ethic, your values? The way you carry yourself…
That you are a person of integrity with a positive mindset who always has time for those less fortunate. Someone who has accomplished much but never lost sight of the real measure of success.
Take a minute to BREATHE and think about your day to day life. How do you spend your days? If you are working hard to keep up with the demands of your schedule, achieving top grades and staying committed to your success what does this say about you?
Take out your journal and write down what that says about your character…
Are you demonstrating perseverance, integrity, follow through?
Do you let passion guide you?
Do you show compassion to those around you?
Take a moment to celebrate your real achievement and recognize who is it that you are becoming as you forge ahead and lay out your foundation for a life of success.
If someone was to describe you in one sentence, what would they say?
